All through the days and nights the screams rang out
but no one heard
Poor Sylvia
Locked in a dark basement left with a dirty matterss
but no one heard
Poor Sylvia
Left cold, hungry and in pain
but no one heard
Poor Sylvia
Trusted to the care of a friend of her family
but no one heard
Poor Sylvia
Her body burned with cigarettes and tattooed with a needle
but no one heard
Poor Sylvia
Her finger nails and toes nails pulled off
but no one heard
Poor Sylvia
The neighbors closed the windows and doors
but no one heard
Poor Sylvia
Her young sister watched the torture and turned away
but no one heard
Poor Sylvia
All through the days and nights the torture continued
but no one heard
Poor Sylvia
There came a time when she died in her own waste
but no one heard
Poor Sylvia
When the police came to investigate they found silence
but no one heard
Poor Sylvia

I was doing some research on Indianapolis and stumbled upon a page about Sylvia Likens. This is a crying shame. Lets us hope nothing like this ever happens again.

This is a true story of a 16 year old girl being tortured and
murdered by an adult and young friends.
Her murderers are free now and names have been changed,
but the memory of Sylvia must live on.
This happened 35 years ago, but it will remain in my mind as
long as I live.
I worked in the hospital where they brought her battered body.
I saw the police pictures of what had been done to her. It is
unbelievable that things like this could be done to a young girl
such as Sylvia. Yet no one heard?
Please make every effort to stop child abuse. Don't be like
Sylvia's neighbors, don't close the door. Get involved you
may save a life.
This is the sound of silence, Sylvia's death.

Thank you Peggy for these kind words, this award
means a lot to me.
You should be applauded for having the conviction to speak out against abuse of innocent children. Your actions will make a difference, as the more who are like you and care enough to voice their opinions, the more the word will spread that this shocking crime must be stopped.

and murdered children in the world
I came to your site via the "Internet Force Against Child Abuse Webring."
You are to be commended for keeping Sylvia's memory alive.
It is totally imcomprehensible to me that ANYONE could
ignore her fate.
We must work together to stop abuse of all kinds, emotional, physical, psychological. The scars are forever for those innocent children entrusted to us.
Keep up the fantastic job you are doing.
